Neha’s Story

March 18, 2021

The KonMari Method is anchored on the premise that tidying is a once-in-a-lifetime event that reveals our inner compass for joy. The REVEAL Method, in turn, teaches you how to manage your home as a system optimized to serve you now. It is informed by principles of learning science so you can readily assimilate lessons, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) so you can practice what you learn right away, and operations management science so you can continuously eliminate wasted time, energy, and effort from your daily life.

Though they cannot always verbalize it this way, most of REVEAL’s clients are looking to troubleshoot and rewire their homes for performance. They seek order, calm, beauty, and authentic connection with their spaces, sure, but more importantly, they seek solutions that conserve day-to-day effort, money, and time. Each client brings to REVEAL unique pain points, goals, and solutions.

Here is Neha’s story.

R: What made you reach out?

N: A recent move, which prompted me to rethink how everything is organized in my house as well: “What do I really need?”

R: What was most important to you at the time?

N: Setting up a system. Once the system is in place, I am pretty good at following it.

R: What insights did you gain about yourself?

N: One of my main insights was finding out my strengths and weaknesses. While not able to create the system, I am much more confident that I will be able to maintain it once it is established in the house. I was also able to take what I learned and apply it to other areas of the home on my own initiative.

R: What insights did you gain about your home and belongings?

N: I was surprised by the number of clothes I owned and the number I gave away. While I knew that in theory this was common for everyone, it was surprising to see how many different emotions I had attached to various items of clothing. In keeping with the main emotion of “joy,” I tried to not have any other emotion well up and was able to make decisions for each item. This was actually easier than I thought it would be.

R: What was the best part of the process?

N: What I really liked about the process was Renata’s practical approach to organizing. I’m a bit wary about buying new gadgets or new organizing “things.” But being able to repurpose what I already have was nice. I really like the idea of doing the whole house and then figuring out what we really need. It is in line with a more essentialist approach to living.

R: What was the hardest part of the process?

I was really hesitant letting someone see all parts of my house. But Renata is patient and really guides you to figure out what your ideal lifestyle is. She knows what it is like to have a family and young kids, so she knows what challenges you could face. It’s amazing how quickly I became comfortable with her.

R: What has the process meant to you?

N: This is by far one of the best decisions I’ve made for our house, and for my life! It has honestly made me more peaceful and have more patience with my family. Every thing has a place in the house, which makes it easy to find. So I spend less time doing the everyday chores (tidying, paper work). I started with signing up for just a few “areas” to tidy and then ended up doing the whole house after seeing how useful it was!
